Fest Anča’s 13th edition feature film headliners: an animated Hiroshima classic and Švankmajer’s Alice
Festivals 18-08-2020Fest Anča 2020 starts in less than two weeks – so it’s high time to unveil the programme! While the international animation festival focuses on short films, it also includes an animated feature-length section – which will be a huge hit with this year’s viewers. The 13th festival’s theme and Fest Anča 2020 feature film selection is truly relevant during these times: The Day After. The four selected feature films include Jan Švankmajer’s live-action/animated Alice (1988), the Japanese classic anime about Hiroshima – Barefoot Gen (1983), and American films for all ages Iron Giant (1999) and Rango (2011).
ZILINA: The 13th edition of Fest Anča, one of the few festivals to be held in person at this time, will take place 27 – 30 August 2020. The international festival of animation aimed at adult audiences has selected its full programme of films.
RIGA: The 24th edition of Baltic Sea Forum for Documentaries (Baltic Sea Docs) will take place online from 29 August to 6 September 2020. The Riga based international documentary film event, consisting of a pitching forum and film screenings, will take a new shape in the context of current restrictions due to Covid-19.
TBILISI: The Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Film Center Georgian Film-Abkhazeti and “Saqanima” Georgian Animators Association, with the support of the French Institute of Georgia and the Georgian National Film Center, have announced the call for the 6th Animation Film Project Development/Pitching training.
VALLETTA: The Malta Film Commission (MFC) has announced a funding call for local film producers, under the auspices of the recently launched Screen Malta, administering a total annual budget of 600,000 EUR for the development, production and distribution of Maltese audiovisual works.

Romania 14-08-2020BUCHAREST: Romania-born Sweden-based film director and visual artist Ștefan Constantinescu started the shooting on his debut feature Man-Dog on 10 August 2020. The film is a Romanian/Bulgarian/Swedish/German coproduction produced by Ada Solomon and Diana Păroiu through microFILM.
WARSAW: SPI International has announced that its lifestyle channel FunBox UHD will be available on NetWorx in Bulgaria.
BUDAPEST: Hungary will screen Pilatus / Pilate, directed by Linda Dombrovszky and based on a novel by Hungarian author Magda Szabó, for representatives of the Golden Globe Awards.
SOFA – SCHOOL OF FILM ADVANCEMENT Reveals the Participants of the 8th Edition
Press releases 11-08-2020Nine projects represented by ten participants will take part in the 8th edition of SOFA – School of Film Advancement. This edition will send its participating cultural managers on a busy one-year trip towards a precisely developed project that helps to shape a region’s professional film structure or film community. Along the way, they’ll pass three intense workshops, gatherings at film festivals and several e-learning units to exchange with distinguished international experts. The current edition will kick-start on August 18-28, 2020 with a first workshop being held online.
BUDAPEST: The Hungarian National Film Institute announced the procedures for foreigners in the film industry traveling to Hungary. The guidelines were published on 10 August 2020.
