Which regions are under-represented at film festivals and why? Ji.hlava organised an online discussion on this topic during the Cannes 2020 Online.

JIHLAVA: According to a survey of 11 international documentary festivals undertaken by the Ji.hlava IDFF, documentaries from CEE territories account for 35 – 53 percent of films at festivals in the CEE region, and as much as 19 percent of films at festivals outside the CEE region.

KATOWICE: The Kieslowski Film School located in Katowice has announced the launch of Film Proxy, an initiative to promote Polish below-the-line talent.

The COVID 19 pandemic has urged the Cannes Film Festival to hold Marche du Film online for the first time from 22 to 26 June. The North Macedonia Film Agency is presented at the virtual film market with an e-pavilion. 

The Agency will present eight features at the virtual film market, as well as the latest catalogs with all the new film projects from 2019 and 2020 and films in development. 

This year, the North Macedonia Film Agency will yet again present the opportunities and advantages ensured by the cash rebate measure as well as invite the global film community to shoot films in North Macedonia.

The Thessaloniki International Film Festival has taken on a global initiative for the protection of films and festivals in the digital era, starting a plea for using geoblocking technology in online film festivals. The plea has already been signed by 18 big film festivals from all over the world.

VENICE: Two Romanian projects and one coproduction from Cyprus have been selected for the seventh edition of the Venice Gap-Financing Market, taking place 4 – 6 September 2020.

BRNO: The EKOFILM IFF has announced that 133 films from 39 countries have been submitted for the competition section of the 46th edition of the festival, running 14 – 17 October 2020 in Brno. EKOFILM IFF is organised and financed by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic and screens films on current environmental topics.
