PODGORICA: The 13th edition of UnderhillFest will run in Podgorica from 7 to 15 June 2022. The festival is dedicated to long documentaries created in small cinematography and independent productions.
ZAGREB: The Rise & Shine animation pitching lab is taking place within the World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb from 6 to 8 June 2022, and also within the Animateka International Animated Film Festival in December 2022 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The lab is organised by CEE Animation and aimed at young filmmakers.

aimed at young filmmakers. A two-part pitching event called Rise &
Shine will take place within the World Festival of Animated Film –
Animafest Zagreb from 6 to 8 June, and the second part within
Animateka International Animated Film Festival in December 2022 in
Ljubljana, Slovenia.

For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, CICAE members and the Board of Directors reconvened again in person at the annual General Assembly. The gathering of the CICAE in Cannes was used to deliberate on how to further develop strategies to strengthen the visibility of film diversity in times of major market shifts, societal changes and the climate crisis, and how cinema can regain its role as a central cultural institution in urban areas.

Last week, the European Commission sent reasoned opinions to 13 Member States (Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, France, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden) for failure to notify the Commission of transposition measures on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market (Directive (EU) 2019/790) (CDSM Directive).

Audiovisual Media Services Directive: Commission refers five Member States to the Court of Justice of the EU
The European Commission has today decided to refer Czechia [INFR 2020/0510], Ireland [INFR 2020/0531], Romania [INFR 2020/0555], Slovakia [INFR 2020/0563] and Spain [INFR 2020/0521], to the Court of Justice of the European Union over the failure to transpose the revised Audiovisual Media Services Directive (“AVMSD”, Directive (EU) 2018/1808), with a request to impose financial sanctions in accordance with Article 260(3) TFEU.

CYPRUS: The European Film Festival in Cyprus, which runs from 7 June to 1 July 2022, will screen 17 independent films from around Europe in Nicosia. The programme features films from Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Spain, Poland, Italy, France, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Hungary, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Ukraine.
