COTTBUS: Projects in development, production and postproduction can still apply for the 25th edition of East-West co-production market connecting cottbus (coco), which will be held 8 – 10 November 2023 during FilmFestival Cottbus (7 – 12 November 2023).

POSTER OF THE THIS YEAR’S JI.HLAVA IDFF WAS UNVEILED - The visual identity of the 27th Ji.hlava IDFF has been revealed! It refers to calligraphy and at the same time works with the principle of mirroring. The author of the visuals, Juraj Horváth, is an award-winning book graphic designer and illustrator who has been the creator of the festival’s visual identity for over two decades and is also behind the celebrated EMERGING PRODUCERS catalogues. Now in its 8th edition since 2020, First Cut+ is a program initiated by Tatino Films that operates twice a year, working in close cooperation with two dynamic and well-established film industry
platforms: Trieste’s When East Meets West and Karlovy Vary IFF’s Eastern Promises.

13 projects in development (cocoPITCH) and 6 works in progress (cocoWIP).

BERLIN: After 19 years in Venice, the international Arthouse Cinema Training (ACT) organised by Confédération Internationale des Cinémas d’Art et d’Essai (C.I.C.A.E.) is moving to Berlin, where it will be held 30 October - 5 November 2023.

It’s a premiere! For the first time, Berlin will host the international Arthouse Cinema Training from 30 October to 5 November 2023. The only programme of its kind worldwide, the ACT gathers independent arthouse cinema professionals from across the globe for a week-long intensive workshop on running an arthouse movie theatre and advancing film culture. For its 20th edition, the Training will relocate to Holzmarkt, an event campus in the heart of the German capital, after 19 years in Venice, where it took place during the Venice Film Festival. In its 20-year history, over 1,000 independent cinema operators and industry representatives from 60 countries have participated in the programme.

VALLETTA: Ridley Scott’s team has moved from Morocco to Malta for the shooting of a sequel to Gladiator 23 years after the original film. Starring Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou and Joseph Quinn, the Paramount production is set for release on 24 November 2024.

WARSAW: Films Boutique has signed new distribution deals for Agnieszka Holland’s feature film The Green Border with Spain, Austria, the Baltics, Iceland and Hungary after the project was showcased in Cannes’ Marché du Film 2023.
