FNE asked Pascal Diot how the Venice Production Bridge has evolved from the former Venice Film Market launched five years ago and what are the new trends in cinema that the event is presenting this year.

VENICE: FNE spoke to Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski, who was honoured with a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement on the opening night of Venice Film Festival.  FNE asked him about his career as a filmmaker, painter and poet. Skolimowski tells FNE why he believes the work of the Polish Film Institute is responsible for the present renaissance of Polish film.

SARAJEVO: Death in Sarajevo by Danis Tanović has been selected as Bosnia and Herzegovina's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. The decision was made by the Association of Filmmakers of BiH.

The grants were announced on 30 August 2016. They were decided by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre following the third TV Stock Exchange held on 29 June 2016.

MEDIAȘ: The 6th edition of Mediaş Central European Film Festival (MeCEFF) announced the seven films from CEE in the competition. They are the winners of their national prizes in 2015. Russia is a special guest this year.

VENICE: This year FNE together with FIPRESCI will offer the ratings of all feature length films screening in the Main Competition, Orizzonti, Venice Days and Critics Week of the Venice Film Festival by film critics attending the Festival. 

ZAGREB: Zrinko Ogresta’s On the Other Side, a Croatian/Serbian coproduction, has been selected as Croatia’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. The decision was made through a secret ballot by 15 representatives of the Croatian Association of Film Workers (HDFD).

BUCHAREST: German/Austrian/Romanian coproduction Toni Erdmann by Maren Ade has been selected as Germany's candidate in the Foreign Language category of the 89th Academy Awards.

LONDON: Nine films from CEE are among the 100 greatest films of the 21st century chosen by BBC Culture. They include films by Cristian Mungiu, Michael Haneke and Belá Tárr.
