Prague / Cannes - The Cannes Film Festival has revealed the next part of the Official selection. The competition section La Cinef (formerly La Cinéfondation) will screen the highly anticipated film Electra by Daria Kashcheeva, produced by Zuzana Křivková and Martin Vandas from Czech MAUR film and co-produced with FAMU, Artichoke (Slovakia) and Papy3D (France).

BUCHAREST: The Romanian/Bulgarian coproduction Men of Deeds / Oameni de treabă by Paul Negoescu received the Best Long Film Award at the 17th edition of the Gopo Awards held at the “I.L. CARAGIALE” National Theatre in Bucharest on 25 April 2023. The film also won in the director, actor, supporting actor, script and editing categories.

KARLOVY VARY: The digitally restored film Courage for Every Day (1964) by Evald Schorm, a key work of the Czechoslovak New Wave, will have its world premiere at the 57th edition of the Karlovy Vary IFF, set to take place 30 June – 8 July 2023.

PODGORICA: The Film Centre of Montenegro has allotted 19,975 EUR for the production of the animation project Fable of the Chicken by Milo Bešović, which has a solid potential for international success in the Centre's opinion.

TALLINN: Shanghai-based Studio Supreme has opened its new European branch, in Estonia. Studio Supreme Films will provide a full range of video production services, from ideation to postproduction, for both commercial and fictional projects.

PODGORICA: The Film Centre of Montenegro, in cooperation with the European Film Academy, organised the 12th consecutive edition of the networking programme for film professionals A Sunday in the Country  - Montenegro in Bar  21 - 24 April 2023.

RIGA: The day of the restoration of Latvia’s independence, 4 May, is celebrated again in 2023 by the National Film Centre of Latvia with a film marathon held both online and on-site.

BUDAPEST: Arun Bhattarai and Dorottya Zurbó return to Bhutan with their new documentary Agent of Happiness / Bruttó Nemzeti Boldogság, which was supported by the National Film Institute – Hungary (NFI). This coproduction between Hungary and Bhutan is currently in rough cut stage, and it is taking part in the dok.incubator INT workshop 2023.

RIGA: The Riga International Film Festival has launched, in cooperation with the Norwegian Film Clubs Association (NFK), the children and young audience educational project RIGA IFF Cinema Club, consisting of 10 video lessons dedicated to the study of the moving image.

TALLINN: Ove Musting’s Kalev received awards for best film, best director and best actor, among others, at the Estonian Film and Television Awards, organised by the Estonian Film Institute to celebrate the film and TV production of 2022.
