LJUBLJANA: After celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2015 with various events including the restoration of two Slovenian classic films, the Slovenian Film Center announced together with the Slovenian Film Archive the restoration of new titles in 2016.

LJUBLJANA: Vlado Škafar’s fourth feature film Mother, which premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival 2016, will have its first screening in Slovenia on 12 April 2016.

LJUBLJANA: The Slovenian Film Center has announced the line-up of domestic productions set to shoot in 2016 and despite a chronic shortage of funding, film production looks very promising in 2016, says Jožko Rutar, the director of the Slovenian Film Center.

LJUBLJANA: Igor Šmid's crime drama Ana starring Slovenian journalist, publicist and writer Vesna Milek, has entered postproduction. Studio Arkadena is scheduled to release the film domestically in winter 2016/17.

LJUBLJANA: A South Korean crew is currently shooting approximately 50 minutes for the popular TV series Dear Friends in Piran, an old Slovenian town on the coast near Portoroz, where the Slovene Film Festival is annually held.

LJUBLJANA: Marta Frelih entered postproduction with her long documentary Ita Rina: A Film Star Who Refused an Invitation to Hollywood, about the first Slovenian film actress who became famous outside Yugoslavia.

LJUBLJANA: Admissions in Slovenia were up by six percent in 2015 compared to 2014 but domestic titles scored less than in the previous year.

Slovenia’s film production has remained fairly stable in 2015, although the difficult economic situation has not improved. Changes in the distribution sector are expected to have a significant positive impact on admissions in future. In spite of an overall record number of film projects submitted for the Slovenian Film Festival 2015, the number of completed domestic feature films has remained the same.

LJUBLJANA: Siska Deluxe by Jan Cvitkovič is competing at the 25th edition of Cottbus Film Festival running through 8 November 2015. The film had its world premiere in Montreal and competed in the Slovenian Film Festival in Portoroz.
