PRODUCTION: From Love With Best Intentions begins shooting
Adrian Sitaru (Angling/Pescuit sportiv) starts shooting his second feature, From Love With Best Intentions/ Din dragoste, cu cele mai bune intenţii on September 9. The film is a story about growing up in contemporary Romania, and follows a successful young man confronted with the sudden illness of his mother and the impossibility of controlling everything in his life.
Hungarian 3D animation Egill in production
Áron Gauder, director of the internationally successful feature animation, Nyócker (The District) is in an advanced phase of his new project, a 3D animation with a complex visual world, Egill, the Last Pagan.
PRODUCTION: The Godmother begins shooting
Virgil Nicolaescu has started shooting his first feature, Naşa/The Godmother, a comedy inspired by the American movies with Italian gangsters, but fashioned after the Romanian realities.
PRODUCTION: The Island begins filming in Bulgaria
Model and actress Laetitia Casta began a nine week shoot August 10 on Kamen Kalev's second feature The Island. She plays a French journalist and girlfriend of a businessman with Bulgarian roots, played by Danish actor Thure Lindhardt (Angels and Demons).
Bollywood film shoots in Latvia
Agent Vinod, Latvia and India's first-ever joint-venture film, will begin shooting on August 26 on locations in Riga, including the city centre, the Old Town, and the city's outskirts. Bollywood film studio Illuminati Films and Latvia's Film Angels Studio(www.angels.lv ) will jointly film several episodes of the Indian spy thriller for a total of some 40 minutes of film time. The budget is 10 millions USD.
PRODUCTION: Hungarian Exit in preproduction
Balázs Lóth is in preproduction with his feature debut Exit, a dark Hungarian psycho-thriller in preproduction about a witness suffering of amnesia who has to search his memory to unveil the truth about a murder in the past.
PRODUCTION: Magic Boys nears end of shooting
Magic Boys, which stars Michael Madsen and Vinnie Jones, will complete filming after two more shoots in London and Budapest. The film, directed by Róbert Koltai, is being shot mainly in English.
PRODUCTION: Miklauzic film in post-production
Hungarian director Bence Miklauzic (Sleepwalkers, 2002) and is in post-production with his second full length feature, Children of the Green Dragon (A zöld sárkány gyermekei). The theatrical release is planned for autumn or at the next Hungarian Film Week 2011 (www.hungarianfilmweek.com).
Puskás feature in preproduction
Legendary Hungarian soccer player, Ferenc Puskás is the protagonist of an ambitious feature project which is planned to be finished in 2012. Producer Ádám Neményi told film.hu that the script written by Norbert Köbli is in rewrites at Fade In Script Consulting (http://fadein.eu).
Documentary Afghan Freedom is shooting in Lithuania
Director Juozas Koreivais shooting the documentary film Afghan Freedom („Afganų laisvė"). Filming is scheduled tp be completed by the beginning of November.
PRODUCTION: In Treatment / În derivă series shooting
HBO Central Europe is shooting its first European series in Romania, from April until the end of August 2010. In Treatment is an adaptation of BeTipul, a series made by Hagai Levi for Israeli television. The series was previously adapted by HBO United States (www.hbo.com) as In Treatment, starring Gabriel Byrne.
Weekend postponed
The shooting of Weekend by director Áron Mátyássy (winner of the main prize of the Hungarian Film Week with his first feature Utolsó idők / Last Times), is postponed until next year due to financial problems.
PRODUCTION: Las Fierbinti shooting
Dragoş Buliga is in production with Las Fierbinţi, a rural comedy focusing on the machinations around the local elections in a Romanian village, involving the mayor, his deputy, a bartender, his brother, a policeman, a guy returning from Italy and a local beauty.
Vlado Škafar's Debut Dad premieres at Venice Film Festival
Vlado Škafar's first feature film Dad is one of the seven films picked from more than 200 entries for this year's International Film Critics' Week (www.sicvenezia.it) held as part of the Venice Film Festival 2010. Škafar is one of the founders of Slovenian Cinémathèque and was its programme department director from 1994 to 1999. He has previously made full length-documentary films including Letter to a Child (2008) and Peterka: Year of Decision (2003).
PRODUCTION: A Very Unsettled Summer in development
A Very Unsettled Summer, a Romanian/Swedish coproduction and the second feature of Romanian director Anca Damian (Crossing Dates), is currently in development. The script is written by the Irish writer Philip O Ceallaigh (now living in Bucharest) and is based on a short story of his. The script was revised by Anca Damian.
PRODUCTION: The Phantom Father in post-production
Lucian Georgescu will finish the post-production of his first feature, The Phantom Father, in September. The editing is completed, and the German composer Johannes Malfatti has worked on the music in Berlin.
