BERLIN: The European Film Academy has opened submissions for the European Film Awards 2021. The deadline for submissions is 31 May 2021.

LIMASSOL: The Italian/Polish coproduction Sole by Carlo Sironi received the Glocal Images Best Film Award at the 19th edition of the Cyprus Film Days (16-24 April 2021). The island’s most important celebration of feature films and independent filmmaking presented its main programme at screenings in cinemas in Limassol and Nicosia, making it one of the first festivals in Europe to return to on site screenings after a year of pandemic lockdowns.

VALLETTA: To Catch a Spy by Jeff Beesley, the Hallmark film with a budget of 2 m EUR, is currently shooting across various locations in Malta, with plans for a premiere on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on 20 June 2021. The film is serviced by the Maltese company Tetrad Productions Ltd.

VALLETTA: A Vipers’ Pit, a feature film directed, produced and shot by Martin Bonnici, will hit the Maltese cinemas later in 2021. The premiere had been initially set for the spring of 2021, but was postponed due to the pandemic situation.

FNE spoke to Tonia Mishiali, the Co-Artistic Director of the Cyprus Film Days about this year’s edition, which will be one of the first film festivals in Europe this year to screen films in cinemas. She talks about the challenges of putting together this year’s event, which takes place from 16 to 24 April in Cyprus after last year’s festival had to be cancelled because of the pandemic.

PRAGUE: The 23rd One World Festival will take place online from 10 May to 6 June 2021. A total of 101 films will be available online for the Czech audience.

WARSAW: Submissions are now open for the 5th edition of Kids Kino Industry, the industry segment of the Kids Kino IFF, which will take place 29 September - 2 October 2021 in a formula which is yet to be decided (online, physical or hybrid).

PRAGUE: The 9th edition of CEE Animation Forum is ready to kick off online on 26 April 2021 with 42 animated projects in development, which will be presented in the pitching competition till 29 April 2021, and an industry programme from 4 to 9 May 2021.

The CEE Animation Forum is an international event aiming to support film professionals while helping them develop the pitch presentation of their animation projects in development, and to provide them with opportunities to grow their visibility and access to international markets. Due to the present Covid-19 situation, the upcoming edition of the CEE Animation Forum will take place online in two parts. The traditional pitching competition, newly expanded to 5 categories, will be held April 26 – 29, and the additional industry programme May 4 – 6.
