VALLETTA: Hallmark’s The Dancing Detective starring Will Kemp and Lacey Chabert, which is currently shooting entirely in Malta, will generate more than 1.7 m EUR into the local economy.
BUCHAREST: Aleph Media, the company owned by Adrian Sârbu, which operates the TV channels Aleph News and Aleph Business in Romania, has gone into insolvency. The decision was made by the Bucharest Court at the request of Aleph Media itself on 16 March 2023.
LJUBLJANA: Kolosej, the first multiplex in Slovenia, closed down in Ljubljana on 14 March 2023 after 22 years of activity. The new owner plans to refurbish the building into an entertainment centre which will keep the cinema under a new name, Odiseja (Odyssey).
BUDAPEST: György Fehér’s masterpiece Twilight / Szürkület (1990) will see its first-ever U.S. release in a brand new 4K restoration. The exclusive New York engagement starts at Film at Lincoln Center on 21 April 2023.
BUDAPEST: The Berlin-based outlet Films Boutique has sold the post-apocalyptic animated sci-fi White Plastic Sky / Műanyag Égbolt directed by Sarolta Szabó and Tibor Bánóczki to France and Taiwan. The film premiered in the Encounters competition at the 73rd Berlin IFF.
VALLETTA: Ridley Scott returns to Malta to shoot a sequel to Gladiator 23 years after the film starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. The shooting will start in the summer of 2023 with Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan and possibly Denzel Washington playing the main parts.
BUCHAREST: Alexandru Belc’s debut feature Metronom has 11 nominations at the 17th edition of the Gopo Awards, followed by Monica Stan and George Chiper-Lillemark’s Immaculate and Paul Negoescu’s Men of Deeds, both with 10 nods. The winners will be announced on 25 April 2023.

FESTIVALS: Bratislava Industry Days at Febiofest IFF Announces Projects Selected for Works in Progress
Slovakia 16-03-2023BRATISLAVA: Ten Slovak film projects will be showcased at the Works in Progress session during Bratislava Industry Days at Febiofest IFF on 17 March 2023. Bratislava Industry Days will be held 15 – 18 March 2023 and the 30th International Film Festival Febiofest Bratislava will take place 15 – 19 March 2023.
RIGA: The 10th edition of the Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF) has opened submissions for its four competition sections: Feature film competition (for films from the Baltic Sea region and the Nordic countries), International short film competition, Latvian short film competition and Baltic music videos competition.
