Year of French Central European Film 2025: The 13th Francophone Film Festival Held in Slovenia
Slovenia 27-03-2025LJUBLJANA: The 13th edition of the Francophone Film Festival was held at the Kinodvor Cinema and the Slovenian Cinematheque in Ljubljana from 20 to 26 March 2025, organised by the French Institute in Slovenia.
The month of February was busy for the Slovenian cinema with two big and important festival gatherings, such as Rotterdam and Berlinale. In both cases, the presence reaped success in the form of the awards. The echoes of the latter continue to resound in March, with the Slovenian premiere and the start of distribution of Urška Djukić’s Little Trouble Girls. Also, at the beginning of March, the Slovenian minority co-production short film The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (directed by Nebojša Slijepčević) concluded its award season with winning the César, but unfortunately not being ultimately crowned with the Oscar in its category.
BUCHAREST: The acclaimed Romanian actress Maria Popistașu and screenwriter Alexandru Baciu are in final postproduction with their debut feature as directors. Y is a Romanian/Greek coproduction supported by the Romanian Film Centre and the Greek Film Centre.
VILNIUS: The French/Italian/Georgian drama April by Dea Kulumbegashvili won the award for best film in the main competition of the 30th Vilnius International Film Festival Kino Pavasaris (7 – 23 March 2025).
LIMASSOL: Producers, directors and scriptwriters from the Mediterranean region can still apply to the 6th Dot.on.the.Map Ιndustry Days. The coproduction, training and networking platform of the 23rd Cyprus Film Days International Festival for film industry professionals, will be held in Limassol 10 – 12 April 2025.
