Film Fund Sarajevo announced production, minority coproduction and development grants for 2022. The grants were announced on 2 September.
SOFIA: Mother by Zornitsa Sophia has been selected as Bulgaria’s candidate for the 95th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category.
Malta Film Studios Upgrades with Sound Stage and Environment-Controlled Indoor Water Tank
Malta 06-09-2022VALLETTA: A sound stage and an environment-controlled indoor water tank will be built at the Malta Film Studios in Kalkara following a project approved by the Planning Authority.
VENICE: FNE has teamed up with FIPRESCI critics attending the Venice Film Festival to rate the films in the Main Competition, Orizzonti, Venice Days and Critics Week giving the films 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars. 5 is the best and 1 is the worst. The ratings give an overview of critics’ opinions from a large number of countries and provide insights to what critics in many different countries think about the programme.
RIGA: The autobiographical history drama January by Viesturs Kairišs has been selected as Latvia’s candidate for the 95th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a tri-country coproduction between Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
BIAFF 2022 – Festival announces its 17th edition and international competition program
Festivals 05-09-2022The 17th Batumi International Art-house Film Festival will be held in Batumi during 18-25 September. Batumi International Film Festival was established in 2006. Organizer of the film festival - Batumi House of Artists "Argani".
Film Screenings will take place at Apollo Cinema and Europe Square. The film festival will feature 30 full-length feature and documentary films from more than 30 countries, as well as 25short films.
This year BIAFF is facing very difficult financial situation – all major government sponsors (Ministry of Culture of Georgia, Georgian National Film Center, Ministry of Culture of Ajara region, Batumi city hall) refused to finance the BIAFF festival which never happened in past years.
Regardless this difficulties, BIAFF festival management still manages to held the festival with support of several embassies, some foreign partners and via FUNDRAISING campaign (see - https://bit.ly/biaffsupportcampaign ) to collect minimum fund which is necessary to cover some basic costs.

PRAGUE: One Life, a biopic of Nicholas Winton, who helped rescue almost 699 children on the eve of WWII (including the film director Karel Reisz), is currently shooting in Prague. The film stars Sir Anthony Hopkins and Johnny Flynn, and it is directed by Aisling Walsh.
VILNIUS: Twelve projects have been selected for the 10th edition of the Baltic Pitching Forum, set to take place in Vilnius 5 – 8 October 2022. The forum welcomes participants from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, alongside guest country Norway, and it will also provide open lectures on short film production, coproduction and sustainability.
ZAGREB: Safe Place / Sigurno mjesto, the first feature film by Croatian director Juraj Lerotić, has been acquired by Cercamon. The film is a Croatian coproduction produced in collaboration with Slovenia.
