The 18th International Animateka Animated Film Festival is just around the corner. Due to the situation with the pandemic, Animateka will take place between 29.11. and 5.12.2021 both in cinemas and online, on a streaming platform.
The programme is diverse and of high quality and includes 344 short films and 7 feature films. 121 short films will be available on the online platform of the festival, including all films from the competition sections.
Yesterday, the 29th edition of the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography EnergaCAMERIMAGE was officially opened in the CKK Jordanki Festival Centre in Toruń. During the Opening Gala Philippe Rousselot received his overdue 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award and Haley Bennett accepted the New Generation Acting Award. The Festival also screened The Tragedy of Macbeth (dir. Joel Coen, cin. Bruno Delbonnel) and Parallel Mothers (dir. Pedro Almodóvar, cin. José Luis Alcaine).

During its first part, we looked at what the “soft” measures to promote gender balance have meant for the Slovenian national film production to date. In her findings, Nika Gričar, an external technical assistant at the Slovenian Film Centre, concluded the following: “The fact that during the Yugoslav period the Slovenian film production failed to produce a single female film director cannot be ignored. Only as late as in 2002, in the independent state of Slovenia, did the first two women finally sign two live-action features: Maja Weiss (Guardian of the Frontier) and Hanna Slak (Blind Spot).

Two Croatian titles, one of which will appear in the main competition programme, screening at PÖFF Shorts, the short film and animation festival held in Tallinn, Estonia. The festival runs 16th – 24th November, in parallel to the 25th Black Nights Film Festival which will show a minority Croatian co-production The Cars We Drove into Capitalism directed by Boris Missirkov and Georgi Bogdanov.

LJUBLJANA: Twenty years after the first films directed by women in Slovenia, “women are increasingly represented in a more balanced manner, especially as directors of debut films, TV films, short films, and as screenwriters,” Nika Gricar from the Slovenian Film Centre told the audience at the panel Women on the Go, presented during the Ljubljana Film Festival, which concludes on 21 November 2021.
JIHLAVA: The Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival has announced that two-thirds of the audience of its hybrid 2021 edition were online viewers. The festival presented its physical edition 25 – 30 October 2021, following it with an online edition 1 – 14 November.
