The re-release of Viktor Kubal’s Bloody Lady (1980), that was digitized and restored by the National Film Archive of the Slovak Film Institute, will take place at the 9th Lumière Festival. The film will be screened within the section Archival treasures and curiosities, that offers unique restored archive films from all over the world.
WARSAW: CANAL+ commissioned two new original, Polish crime series directed by Maciej Pieprzyca and Leszek Dawid, with both shoots planned for October. Opus Film and Telemark are producing.
LIMASSOL: Eleven films will compete in the 7th International Short Film Festival of Cyprus, taking place at the Rialto Theatre from 14 to 21 October 2017.
VILNIUS: Andrius Blaževičius’ drama The Saint remained in first place for its second week in release in Lithuania, where it opened at the end of September 2017. The Lithuanian/Polish coproduction topped 66,000 admissions and had nearly a quarter of all admissions for the week.
BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Ukrainian crime thriller The Line / Čiara directed by Peter Bebjak topped the 300,00 admission mark, and held on to a spot in the top ten at the Slovak box office in its tenth week in distribution.
ZLIN: The Zlin Region of the Czech Republic launched a new Programme for Audiovisual Support in the Zlin Region with an annual budget of 10m CZK.

Poland 10-10-2017WARSAW: The Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has announced its decision to remove Magdalena Sroka as the Director of the Polish Film Institute. Earlier the same day the Board of PISF found that the Ministry has no legal reasons to remove the head of the Institute.
PRAGUE: The Bosnia and Herzegovina/Czech/Slovenian/German/Serbian coproduction Men Don’t Cry directed by Alen Drljevic opened in Czech cinemas on 3 October 2017. The film is distributed by Aerofilms in cooperation with the Czech Television and KVIFF Distribution.
Star of The Big Blue, Renowned European Actor and Director Jean-Marc Barr to Receive Bratislava IFF’s Award for Artistic Excellence in World Cinema
Festivals 10-10-2017The 19th edition of the Bratislava International Film Festival will welcome one of the most distinctive European actors and a unique director JEAN-MARC BARR, who has received world recognition thanks to his cooperation with the controversial Danish director Lars von Trier on films such as Europa, Dogville or Nymphomaniac, and especially as the star of Luc Besson’s hit The Big Blue. In Bratislava, Jean-Marc Barr will receive the festival’s own Award for Artistic Excellence in World Cinema. On this occasion, Mr. Barr will personally present the selection of films screened as part of the Tribute section as well as his latest film, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi Grain.
JIHLAVA: The Jihlava IDFF is taking the Audience Award to a new level. The winner of the Short Joy section of documentary short films will be chosen by audiences streaming the films online and voting before the festival opens on 24 October 2017.
