ZILINA: The Fest Anča International Animation Festival 2021 awarded its Best Animated Short award to the French film Polka Dot Boy directed by Sarina Nihei.

BUCHAREST: FILM +, the workshop, consultancy and support lab for independent small budget film productions, is accepting applications for the 6th edition of the programme from emerging short and feature film directors from Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova. All genres (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental) and stages of the project (development, production, post-production) at the time of the application are eligible.

BUCHAREST: The acclaimed Romanian actress Luminița Gheorghiu, one of the most cherished actors of the Romanian New Wave, died after a long illness on 4 July 2021 at the age of 71. She starred in The Death of Mr. Lăzărescu by Cristi Puiu (2005, Mandragora) and The Child’s Pose by Călin Peter Netzer (2013, Parada Film).

CLUJ-NAPOCA: Twelve titles by first or second-time feature film directors, including two Romanian films, will compete for the Transilvania Trophy at the 20th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), set to take place in-person in Cluj-Napoca from 23 July to 1 August 2021. Guillemo Arriaga is a member of the jury.
