COTTBUS: The Hungarian film Eviction / Kilakoltatas directed by Mate Fazekas was presented at the Works in Progress section of connecting cottbus, which concluded its online edition on 6 November 2020. The film is produced by Gabor Osvath and Peter Fulop for Filmfabriq, FP Films, and Sparks.

REBELS STORM THE SCREENS

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) announces the line-up for Rebels With A Cause, an international competition programme screening 13 feature films, alongside a short films competition that also includes 13 entries this year, split across two programmes.
The programme is PÖFF’s showcase for challenging independent productions that offer distinct creative visions, robust opinions, and surprising aesthetics, for a discerning and demanding audience.

BALTIC COMPETITON OFFERS FESTIVAL HITS & FRESH FINDS

Showcasing the fresh cinematic output of the three Baltic countries – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania – the Baltic Competition will screen 14 films, including world premieres of two Estonian documentaries.
The Baltics are still a well full of deeply personal, untold stories of Soviet occupation, Cold War, and small-town romance - or tragedy.

JOIN US AT THE OPENING CEREMONY

The opening ceremony of the 24th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will take place on Thursday, November 12th in Coca-Cola Plaza Cinema. We invite you to come and celebrate the start of one of this year’s most important cultural events in Estonia!
Two different performances are set to entertain the audience. The show that theater maker Ingmar Jõela has in store for us is a thoughtful allegory of the times, in which we find ourselves right now. Subsequently, the music of Maarja Nuut & RUUM and the poetry of Gustav Suits melt into an audiovisual spectacle by Alyona Movko.
Focus country Germany’s provocative biopic “Enfant Terrible” will open the festival.
OSCAR ENTRIES SCREENING @PÖFF

We are thrilled that our last year's First Feature Competition winner "Stories from the Chestnut Woods" directed by Gregor Božič is Slovenian's submission to the 93rd Academy Awards for the best international feature film award.
Estonia has also selected its entry for the International Feature Film category of the Oscars - the Nordic Western “The Last Ones,” directed by Veiko Õunpuu. The film will screen as part of our Baltic Competition program.
Also screening in our program this year is Germany's Oscar entry "And Tomorrow The Entire World", Czech Republic's submission "Charlatan" and Georgia's "Beginning".
PÖFF COMPETITION ENTRIES ANNOUNCE FIRST SALES DEALS

- Menemsha Films has grabbed North American rights to "The Sign Painter", Deadline reports – a Latvian historical drama which dominated nominations at the country’s national film awards and that is competing in our Official Selection – Competition. "Black Nights is an ideal launching pad for Baltic features during awards season,” said EastWest Filmdistribution CEO Sasha Wieser.
- Missing Films Acquires ‘Poppy Field’ in Germany Ahead of Black Nights Premiere, Variety reports – First Feature Competition entry has been sold to Missing Films for distribution in German-speaking territories ahead of its world premiere at PÖFF.
- Yellow Affair boards sales on Mika Kaurismäki’s lockdown bar film ‘Gracious Night', Screen reports – the Finnish film is having its world premiere in the Official Selection – Competition.

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival announces collaboration with three medical companies to ensure the safety of its events and guests:
- We have partnered with medical companies SYNLAB Estonia and Medicum to ensure safety of its guests and venues and to test all guests coming to Tallinn from abroad. Private company Sinu Arst will help the festival with registere COVID cases.
- The festival received a special governmental permit to bring foreign guests and press to the country
- Joint goal is to organise a festival with no new corona cases and prevent the possibility of the virus spreading.

MUSIC MEETS FILM WELCOMES OSCAR NOMINEE

This year’s Music Meets Film held virtually along with the complete Industry@Tallinn &; Baltic Event programme, will give an insight into the creative layers of composers, film directors and industry leaders. One of the main speakers of the programme is four-time Oscar nominee Danny Elfman, who has established himself as one of the most versatile and accomplished film composers in the industry.
The conversation panel named “Choosing Doors: A Conversation with Danny Elfman” will discuss the paths Elfman has chosen in his creative life.

BIAFF film festival which was scheduled during 13-20 September, due to COVID19 Pandemic, was postponed to October. But since in October the COVID19 cases increased significantly in Georgia, all cultural events were cancelled. Accordingly, BIAFF management made decision to move to Digital format and organize film screenings and industry platform in online format.

Festivals 29-10-202018 films in production or post-production, looking for sales agents or festivals for international premiers, will be presented at the Industry@Tallinn &; Baltic Event Works in Progress sessions in 2020.
As this year’s Industry@Tallinn &; Baltic Event takes place fully online, the presentations of projects taking part of Works in Progress can be followed on the industry.poff.ee website. The projects will be presented on November 24.
