Stream Communications Network & Media Inc., a broadband cable company offering cable TV, Internet and VoIP services in Poland, has closed the sale of its Polish subsidiary to Penta Investments Ltd., a Central European private equity firm.
Polish director Andrzej Wajda has already left for Los Angeles, where his film Katyń is one of the five contenders for best foreign-language film at Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony. Special screenings of his intensely personal film were organised for members of the Film Academy through the London-based Premiere Agency which is handling promotion.
Telefonica O2 Czech Republic reported on Thursday consolidated revenues (business and recurring revenues) of 63 billion crowns (€2.5 billion) in 2007, a rise of 2.8% year-on-year, in the upper range of analysts' expectations. Fourth-quarter consolidated revenues rose 1.4% year-on-year.
Polish media group Agora SA reported revenues for 2007 rose 12% from the previous year to 1.27 billion zloties (€356 million), just below analysts' expectations. Advertising sales were up 12.7% on 2006, while ad revenues of Agora's Internet service grew by almost 128%.
A film shot during a Polish expedition to the Himalayas at the outbreak of World War II was discovered recently in the archives of the British Film Institute in London, the Polish Radio External Service reported on Feb. 17. The discovery was made after 17 years of research by Anna Pietraszek, a mountain climber, filmmaker and historian.
The organisers of the Szolnok International Film Festival of Fine Arts are calling for entries for the event which will be held Oct. 8-12 this year in Szolnok, Hungary. Entries are being accepted that present, interpret or re-interpret works of art by means of cinematic methods, according to festival secretary Katalin Hatvani.
Polish media and entertainment group ITI Holdings SA has reached agreement with the owners of Silver Screen World Cinemas to merge its operations with those of its Multikino network of multiplex cinemas. As a result of the acquisition, Multikino will operate 19 movie theaters with 174 screens in 13 Polish cities and will enter the Ukrainian market.
Listed Polish broadcaster TVN turned in a strong fourth-quarter performance on Monday, buoyed by rising advertising sales in Poland's booming economy. Revenue in the last quarter of 2007 rose 29% to 522 million zloties (€147 million), ahead of analysts' expectations.
Slovenian films are popular as never before domestically. Of the 25 films currently being screened in Ljubljana, one-fifth were made in Slovenia, according to the Slovenian daily Delo.
Berlin-based A Company Consulting & Licensing AG and Hungarian independent distributor Budapest Film have agreed to establish a European VOD platform called Filmklik Europe. The deal calls for A Company to acquire shares of the VOD operator Filmklik Hungary which launched on June 1, 2007.
