ZAGREB: Croatian helmer Dalibor Matanić started filming his new TV series The Last Socialist Artefact / Područje bez signala, based on the book of the famous Croatian writer Robert Perišić. The series is developed and produced by Ankica Jurić Tilić and her company Kinorama in coproduction with Sense Production (RS), Perfo Production (SI) and Citizen Jane (FI). Matanić has recently completed his 3-season TV series The Paper / Novine, which has been sold to Netflix.

POZNAŃ: Krzysztof Łukaszewicz is working on an epic war drama Eaglets, called the first Polish film on the aggression of the Soviet army in 1939. WFDiF is producing with a planned budget of EUR 2.2 m / PLN 10 m.

VILNIUS: Lithuanian director Irma Pužauskaitė is currently shooting her debut feature 9th Step / 9-as žingsnis. The shooting should have started in April, but was postponed due Covid-19 until September, 2020. The shooting is expected to wrap in October.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian-Romanian director Cristina Grosan is in late development and production financing with her sophomore feature Ordinary Failures / Běžná selhání. Her first foreign language film is a Czech/Italian/Hungarian/Slovak coproduction.

BRATISLAVA: Known Unknown / Známi neznámi, the feature debut of young Slovak director Zuzana Marianková, is entering postproduction. The remake of the 2016 Italian blockbuster Perfect Strangers is produced by Wandal Production, which has acquired rights for Slovakia and the Czech Republic, with the adaptation of the screenplay by Petr Jarchovský. 

RIGA: Ināra Kolmane’s third feature Soviet Milk / Mātes piens began shooting its first sequence on 15 September 2020.

BUCHAREST: Romanian director Octav Chelaru finished shooting his debut feature Balaur on 10 September 2020. The film was shot in Romania as a Romanian/German/Serbian coproduction and will have its premiere in 2021.

BUCHAREST: Emanuel Pârvu is in postproduction with his sophomore feature Mikado / Marocco, which he shot when Romania eased the Covid restrictions, from 26 July to 23 August 2020. The main character of the film is played by Șerban Pavlu, who also stared in Pârvu's debut feature Meda or The Not So Bright Side of Things / Meda sau Partea nu prea fericită a lucrurilor (FamArt, 2017), which won the Hearts of Sarajevo for Best Director and Best Actor.

TBILISI: Georgian director Akaki Shanshiashvili is currently in preproduction with the feature film Winter's Sorrow, based on the novels of famous Georgian writer Revaz Inanishvili. The film is produced by Vako Kirkitadze and Nikoloz Gugushvili through Film Asylum.

WARSAW: Bartosz Blaschke has begun shooting his debut film Sonata, the true story of a 14-year-old who is diagnosed with hearing loss, not autism as previously assumed, and discovers he has musical talent. The film is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

WARSAW: Kinga Dębska is working on a prequel to her critically acclaimed comedy drama These Daughters of Mine starring Adam Woronowicz, Kinga Preis, Ewa Wiśniewska. Kalejdoskop Film Studio is producing.

RIGA: The Latvian director Yevgeny Pashkevich has completed work on his third feature length film What Silent Gerda Knows, which will premiere in the main competition at the Riga International Film Festival, running 15 - 25 October 2020.

BUCHAREST: The eight-episode TV series RUXX, directed by Iulia Rugină and Octav Gheorghe, and produced by HBO Europe, has started shooting in Romania. Cristian Mungiu and Tudor Reu are providing production services through Mobra Films.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian indie production company Joyrider and Serbian production house Firefly are coproducing Frust, an offbeat comedy/drama series.

SOFIA: The Bulgarian-born Canadian animator Theodore Ushev started the shooting of his first feature film, a dark dystopia based on Vladislav Todorov’s novel The Spinning Top. The actual film title φ1.618 refers to the Golden Ratio.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian director Kata Dobó is currently in production with Stop My Stepmom! / El a kezekkel a papámtól!, the first grandiose family musical film in Hungary for decades. The producer is Megafilm and the release is set for 2 December 2021.
