BUDAPEST: The Hungarian Film Day, held on 30 April since 2018, is celebrated during a whole week from 29 April to 5 May 2024 with the participation of the National Film Institute – Hungary (NFI) as well as cinemas, TV channels and streaming platforms.

Ádám Breier’s bittersweet dramedy has had over 30,000 admissions and is still showing in Hungarian cinemas.
BERLIN: Sarajevo’s Baščaršija district and the Scheibler Lofts at Księży Młyn in Łódź (Poland) are among the eight new additions in 2024 to the Treasures of European Film Culture programme announced by the European Film Academy.
PODGORICA: Bosnian director Srđan Vuletić has started shooting his new feature film Otter in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica. The film is a coproduction between Montenegro, Italy, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo.
LIMASSOL: The Egyptian/German project The Sea Was Once Blue by Mohamad El-Hadidi received the main award, Cyprus Film Commission – Invest Cyprus Award, at the coproduction forum Dot.on.the.Map Meeting Point, which was held during the 5th Dot.on.the.Map Ιndustry Days (18 – 20 April 2024) within the 22nd Cyprus Film Days International Festival.
SOFIA: More than 90 feature, documentary and animated films from 2023 will be screened free of charge at the National Festival of Bulgarian Cinema organised by the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers 1 May - 13 May 2024.
Breaking toxic generational cycles and trauma is a highly relevant topic, especially among young people. Especially for a 23-year-old Dalibor, who after being released from prison, finds out that his violent father has a chance to get custody of his younger brother. He therefore decides to help his mother with the custody battle, but even here, old disputes and traumas gradually resurface. Dalibor decides to process this pain in a truly original way - as a fakir in a traveling circus. However, lying on a bed of nails or spitting gasoline on burning torches provides only a short-term escape. Will Dalibor eventually manage to emancipate and find his place in life?
"Weeds," an animated short film, has been chosen to be showcased at the official selection of La Cinef at the Festival de Cannes. Directed by Pola Kazak and produced by MAUR film and the Film Academy of Miroslav Ondricek in Pisek (Czech Republic), this graduation work promises to engage audiences with its visually captivating narrative.
