Latvia's entry for Oscars® – feature film “January” by Viesturs Kairišs (Viestur Kairish) will be screened in New York
Press releases 01-12-2022Latvia will be represented at the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Oscar Awards for the fifteenth time, this year the entry in the Best International Feature Film category will be the film “January” (2022). The film crowned its world premiere with the Best International Feature Award at the Tribeca Film Festival (USA) and was generously rewarded at the Rome International Film Festival (IT) and Warsaw Film Festival (PL). On December 9, Viesturs Kairišs’s film will be screened in New York (Scandinavia House).
FESTIVALS: Fest Anča International Animation Festival 2023 Launches Call for Entries
Slovakia 30-11-2022ŽILINA: Fest Anča International Animation Festival has launched the call for entries for its upcoming edition set to take place in Žilina, Slovakia 29 June – 2 July 2023. The deadline for free of charge submissions is till 31 December 2022 and for entries with a symbolic fee from 1 to 31 January 2023.
PRAGUE: Applications for the international dok.incubator workshop 2023 are open till 26 January 2023.
Fest Anča International Animation Festival has launched a call for entries for its 2023 edition. Animated short films, student films, music videos and films for children are among the competition categories.
First Hungarian/Vietnamese Coproduction to Be Released on Valentine’s Weekend of 2023
Hungary 30-11-2022BUDAPEST: The Romantic film The Flower of the Apple Tree / Az almafa virága directed by Dóra Szűcs will be released in Hungary by Vertigo Media on 16 February 2023. The first Hungarian/Vietnamese coproduction was supported by the National Film Institute – Hungary (NFI).
WARSAW: The Polish production Babylon. The Martial Law directed by Marek Bukowski won 1st place in the Feature Film Competition at the second edition of the Heart of Europe International TV Festival, organised by the Polish Television (TVP). This year the festival launched the Co-production Forum.
ZAGREB: Croatian producer Tina Hajon has been appointed as Programme Director of European Shooting Stars, a project of the European Film Promotion (EFP). She is the first Croatian professional holding that position.
VALLETTA: The Maltese government is ready to pay out 50 m EUR for incentives to international productions in 2023, although it had budgeted only 11 m EUR, according to the local media quoting the prospective Nationalist MEP candidate Peter Agius.
LJUBLJANA: A total of 28 titles were selected for the Main Competition of the 19th edition of Animateka Animated International Film Festival, which takes place in Ljubljana 28 November – 4 December 2022.
On 24 November the 21st edition of Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event handed out the prizes to the best projects after five days full of networking, presentations, panel discussions and meetings.
