SARAJEVO: Al Jazeera Balkans, the regional leg of the Al Jazeera Media Network from Qatar, shuts down its operations in Sarajevo after 14 years.

Submissions are still open for the 27th edition of East-West co-production market connecting cottbus. Taking place during FilmFestival Cottbus on 5-7 November 2025, coco will present 13 projects in development (cocoPITCH) and 6 works in progress (cocoWIP).

ZAGREB: Acclaimed director Vinko Brešan is in development with Mišo (working title), a biopic about one of Croatia’s most beloved music icons, Mišo Kovač.

SARAJEVO: Emerging filmmakers and artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Kosovo, and Montenegro can apply to the 5th DOC-CAMP 2025, which will be held 3 – 7 September2025, at the Pecka Visitor Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, a non-specialized festival with two competitive categories, took place from July 4th to July 12th 2025. It was organized by Film Servis Festival Karlovy Vary, a.s., with Kryštof Mucha as the executive director, Karel Och as its artistic director and Petr Lintimer as the head of production.

In exactly two months, Piešťany will become the venue for the 20th anniversary Cinematik International Film Festival. The detailed program will include a number of hot new releases, Slovak premieres and festival previews. The organizers promise one of the best programs in the entire history of the festival and over 100 films. The first category of discounted accreditations sold out in an incredible 50 seconds.

Georgian director Mariam Bitsadze, currently studying in the joint Master’s program of ECAL (Lausanne) and HEAD (Geneva), has been selected for the Film Foundry section of the Locarno Film Festival with her short film Sous la table, a program dedicated to showcasing bold and promising new voices in European cinema.

This year for the tenth time FNE together with FIPRESCI is organising the ratings of all feature films in the main Crystal Globe competition, and the Proxima competition of the official Karlovy Vary International Film Festival programme by international critics attending the Festival.

BUCHAREST: Romanian director/writer/producer Marian Crișan will shoot his seventh feature film Holy Light / Lumina for 25 days starting 1 August 2025. The film is a coproduction between Romania, the Republic of Moldova, and Slovakia.
