LJUBLJANA: The 17th edition of the Slovenian festival of animated film Animateka has announced that the festival will take place in an extended hybrid online and in-person format on 30 November – 9 December 2020.
FESTIVALS: Immaculate and Videograms of a Pandemic Win Postproduction Awards at Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest Festival
Romania 03-11-2020BUCHAREST: Immaculate, the debut feature by Monica Stan and George Chiper Lillemark, and the new documentary by Andrei Dăscălescu Videograms of a Pandemic, won postproduction awards at the Works-in-Progress showcase organised within the 11th edition of Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest Festival (running 23 October-1 November 2020).
BRATISLAVA: The Fest Anča International Animation Festival has opened its Call for Entries for the 14th edition, to be held 1 – 4 July 2021 in Žilina, Slovakia.

For a sensitive approach to its well-chosen protagonists the Jury has decided to award the film that shows us a global and a well-known topic from a unique unconventional perspective which still allows the audience to get very close not only to the mainprotagonist but also to dive into the whole story. And all this is supported by the strong cinematic vision of the director.

For its poetic aesthetics, in search of a sensory representation of a daily and familiar environment, and for its visual creation of a memory that permanently disappeared by bringing glimpses of light in a world of darkness.

Jury statement:
For a beautiful and minimalistic narrative approach with which director succeeds, by suspending time in a soothing atmosphere, to open multiple number of topics that unfold in the film and can be relevant not only for the Chechen society.
Silver Eye Award 2020 for the best feature length film in the East Silver Market, given by the Institute of Documentary Film at Ji.hlava IDFF, goes to Jindřich Andrš for his A New Shift. Mohammed Almughanni got the award in short length category for his film Son of the Streets. Special Mention goes to Hanna Hovitie's To Feather, to Wither.
FNE at Ji.hlava IDFF 2020: Slovak Director Viera Čákanyová Wins Top Prize at Ji.hlava IDFF
Czech Republic 02-11-2020JIHLAVA: White on White by Slovak director Viera Čákanyová won Best Film in the Opus Bonum international competition of the 24th Ji.hlava IDFF, which continues online through 8 November 2020. The award-winner was selected by the sole juror of the Opus Bonum section, Azerbaijani director Hilal Baydarov.

Slovenia 02-11-2020LJUBLJANA: Gregor Božič’s debut feature Stories From the Chestnut Woods / Zgodbe iz kostanjevih gozdov is Slovenia's candidate for the 93rd Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the best international feature film category. The nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards will be announced on 15 March 2021 and the ceremony is scheduled for 25 April 2021.
TALLINN: The Last Ones / Viimane, an Estonian/Finnish/Dutch coproduction directed by Veiko Õunpuu, has been selected as Estonia's candidate for the 93rd Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the best international feature film category. The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 25 April 2021.
COTTBUS: The 30th anniversary edition of FilmFestival Cottbus, originally scheduled to begin on 3 November 2020, has postponed its dates due to the closure of all cinemas for four weeks, that was announced by the German government. The new festival dates are 8 - 13 December 2020.
