VILNIUS: Ten films have been selected for the national competition of the Vilnius International Short Film FestivalShort Film Festival, running 12 – 18 January 2022, and another 29 films have been selected for the international competition.

Every year the Vilnius Short Film Festival kicks off the cultural and cinematic year in Lithuania, with the 15th edition of the festival taking place right after the winter holidays between 12-18 January 2022. With they find most convenient: virtual or live screenings. With January often a quiet month in terms of cultural events the Vilnius International Short Film Festival will allow Lithuanian audiences to dive headfirst into 2022 and engage with some wonderful films, whether in person or virtually.”

PRAGUE: A new report from the European Audiovisual Observatory ranked the Czech Republic sixth in the number of animated films produced between 2015 to 2019, with an average of four films produced each year. It was the only country from the CEE/Baltic/Balkan region of Europe to break into the top 12.

TBILISI: The German/Georgian coproduction What Do We See When We Look at the Sky? by Alexander Koberidze screens in the main competition of the 21st edition of the Tbilisi International Film Festival, which opened in an online format on 30 November 2020 and runs through 20 December. The Slovak-Czech-Ukrainian co-production 107 Mothers by the director Peter Kerekes has won this year's Arab Critics' Awards for European Films, which is being presented for the third time by European Film Promotion (EFP) and Arab Cinema Center (ACC) at the Cairo International Film Festival.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Peter Kerekes received the Arab Critics’ Award at the Cairo IFF for the Slovak/Czech/Ukrainian coproduction 107 Mothers. Kerekes received the award virtually at a gala ceremony on 1 December 2021.

LJUBLJANA: The Slovenian project No One Ever Looked at Elephants as You Do won the fifth edition of Animateka PRO Pitch that took place on 30 November as part of the 18th International Animated Film Festival Animateka (29 November – 5 December 2021). The short film is directed by Sandra Jovanovska and produced by Miha Černec for Staragara.
