Wiesbaden/Frankfurt, 2 February 2021
From 20 to 26 April 2021, goEast – Festival of Central and Eastern European Film, organised by DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, will be presenting the full creative spectrum of the cinema scenes of Central and Eastern Europe, not only online, but, circumstances permitting, once again where the festival's programming ultimately belongs: in the cinemas and neighbourhoods of the Rhine-Main region. Last year, goEast reacted to the difficult situation for the cultural sector brought on by the spread of Covid-19 with its first hybrid festival programme spread out throughout the entire year. For the 21st edition of goEast, the festival organisers are seeking to make a return to the cinema, under diligent observation of current hygiene protocols. In addition, online event programming will provide as many fans of the often still-underexposed cinema of Central and Eastern Europe as possible with a chance to partake in a (film) cultural experience of a very special kind.
WARSAW: Poland has announced the reopening of cinemas and theatres starting from 12 February 2021 with a 50 percent seating capacity available. Both have been closed since 7 November 2020, and before that both cinemas and theatres were only allowed to sell 25% of places available, making operation financially unviable for most cinema operators.
FNE TV spoke to Montenegrin filmmaker Ivan Marinovič about how the Montenegro Film Centre has kick-started film production in this small country after its founding just five years ago. He also tells us how fresh ideas from young new Montenegrin filmmakers are starting to have an impact on the international scene.

Applications now open worldwide for the 2021 Pustnik Screenwriters Residency
Press releases 02-02-2021TETA Association has opened applications for the 7th edition of Pustnik Screenwriters Residency, which has been scheduled for 10–18 September 2021. Pustnik was established as the first Romania-based residency for feature film development and is dedicated to emerging filmmakers from all over the world.
After an online edition in 2020, Pustnik intends to return to its usual home at Cultural Port Cetate, a historical site with an incredible story of its own, located on the shore of the Danube.
During the retreat, eight filmmakers – two Romanians and six internationals – will develop their first or second feature-length screenplays. Besides dedicated writing time, Pustnik also offers participants the opportunity to meet residency alumni who have already produced their debut films, as well as established screenwriters who can provide feedback on their projects.
Applicants are required to have previously written at least one short or feature film (fiction only) which has screened at a notable international film festival. Projects can be written in any language but fluency in English is mandatory for all residency activities.
Residents and guests take part in common working sessions and screenings of their own work. We encourage them to offer each other feedback and nurture a generous spirit of support.
Applications are open at www.pustnik.com until the 14th of March. As a non-profit organisation run by screenwriters for screenwriters, there are no application or participation fees.
The residents will be selected by the co-founders of Pustnik, Andreea Borțun (writer/director, Romania) and Bryn Chainey (writer/director, UK/Australia). In June the successful applicants will be announced.
Pustnik is the first international screenwriters residency to take place in Romania. It aims to create an environment dedicated to peace of mind and clarity of thought, away from modern pressures. Pustnik is also a growing network of film professionals and a community whose aim is to ease and encourage collaboration across the international cinema industry.
