BRNO: The EKOFILM IFF has announced that 133 films from 39 countries have been submitted for the competition section of the 46th edition of the festival, running 14 – 17 October 2020 in Brno. EKOFILM IFF is organised and financed by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic and screens films on current environmental topics.

Parliament President David Sassoli urged EU leaders to take action on Europe’s recovery in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis. Sassoli addressed heads of state and government at the start of a video conference of the European Council on 19 June to discuss the recovery plan and the EU’s next long-term budget.

19/06: COVID-19: Easing rules to encourage banks to lend to companies and households – European Parliament

On 18 June, Plenary approved the “quick fix” to the capital requirement regulation (CRR) to temporarily ensure favourable conditions for banks. This will support credit flows to companies and households and absorb losses, mitigating the economic consequences of the COVID-19 lock-down.

The Commission announced that it has awarded nearly €166 million, via the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator Pilot, to 36 companies set to combat the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, over €148 million will be granted to another 36 companies set to contribute to the recovery plan for Europe, bringing the total investment from Horizon 2020, the EU's research and innovation programme, to €314 million in this round.

First Cut+, the new program created for boosting the competitiveness and marketability of feature films that previously participated in First Cut Lab, is gearing up for its second edition that will take place from July 6th to 9th 2020 during Karlovy Vary’s Eastern Promises, now online. First Cut+ consists in the promotion of a portfolio of 16 fiction feature films at the stage of post- production, predominantly from countries with a low production capacity (at least 75% of the films) and with a focus on Central & Eastern Europe. The range of films is large: both debut & experienced directors, small and larger budgets. 8 projects have already been presented in Trieste last January for the first session, now an additional 8 new projects will be unveiled. First Cut+ is the only new action that received financial support from the Access to Markets scheme of Creative Europe’s MEDIA program in 2019.

Join us for the New Horizons' Polish Days Goes to Cannes screening, which will be held on the 22nd of July from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the Marché du Film Online.

New Horizons International Film Festival and the Polish Film Institute will present a selection of five Polish films; 1 documentary and 4 feature films, in various stages of production (works-in-progress):

  • The Horse Tail, directed by Justyna Łuczaj-Salej, produced by Studio Indeks (debut film)
  • The Last Mission, directed by Jacek Bławut, produced by Aura Films
  • Everyone Has a Summer, directed by Tomasz Jurkiewicz, produced by Before My Eyes (debut film)

A unique training platform for emerging talents aimed at scouting the most talented filmmakers & producers of the future who are developing their first or second feature film projects. It focuses primarily on creative teams from Central and Eastern Europe.

Every year it selects teams of writers, directors and producers of 9 feature film projects and it also selects 3 script consultant trainees who join the creative process.
