SKOPJE: The Macedonian Film Agency has signed a coproduction agreement with the Kosovo Cinematography Center. The agreement was signed by Gorjan Tozja, director of the Macedonian Film Agency, and Arben Zharku, director of the Kosovo Cinematography Center.
PRAGUE: CEE films got off to a slow start at the summer box office after a strong start earlier in the year. The summer doldrums follow what has been a strong start for 2018 with Latvian films accounting for 28% market share in the first quarter of the year and other countries in the region also boasting box office successes for domestic films when three domestic films were in the top ten in Estonia and Lithuania, as well as earlier impressive results in Slovakia.

Festivals 12-06-2018The Art Film Fest International Film Festival proudly presents this year’s jury for its feature film competition, consisting of film professionals from five different countries: Slovakia, Ukraine, Poland, Russia and Germany. Their task will be to determine the winners of Art Film Fest’s Blue Angel awards, which will take flight at the close of the festival on 23 June.
PRAGUE: An unprecedented number of 17 Czech filmmakers representing 11 companies and institutions are attending the 42nd edition of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, running through 16 June 2018.
PRAGUE: Film Europe media company is co-launching its yet another festival to add to its portfolio of mini film festivals, Girls in Film, focusing on first and second films by European female directors.
Grand Competition – Short Film jury, consisting of Jeanette Bonds, Sanja Borčić, Piotr Dumała, Robert Morgan and Pedro Rivero decided to give the Grand Prix - Short Film to La Chute by Boris Labbé.

FESTIVALS: I Am Pregnant, in Romania Wins Audience Award at 22nd European Film Festival in Bucharest
Romania 11-06-2018BUCHAREST: Jesús del Cerro’s documentary I Am Pregnant, in Romania / Sunt însărcinată, în România received the Audience Award at the 22nd European Film Festival in Bucharest. The festival, organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute, was attended in Bucharest and seven other Romanian towns by almost 8,700 spectators.

For the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027, the European Commission is proposing to increase funding for Creative Europe, the programme supporting European cultural and creative sectors and audiovisual works, to €1.85 billion.

On 29 May, performers and audiovisual authors from across Europe gathered in Strasbourg to explain in their own words why an unwaivable right to remuneration is urgently needed for them as creators, when their works are being watched on on-demand platforms. The meeting was a last plea to the European Parliament before the vote on the new Copyright Directive on 21 June.

The Commission proposed the 2019 draft EU Budget of €166 billion in commitments, corresponding to a 3% increase over 2018, investing in a stronger and more resilient European economy and promoting solidarity and security on both sides of the EU's borders.
