East Doc Platform Awarded Best Documentaries from Central and Eastern Europe
Press releases 12-03-2018Organized by the Institute of Documentary Film, the EAST DOC PLATFORM – the largest event for documentary filmmakers in Central and Eastern Europe – took place for the seventh time. From March 3 to 9, Prague hosted 350 film professionals from around the world. This unique event allows filmmakers to pitch their documentary projects in early stages to renowned experts, get valuable experience and establish important contacts and partnerships for a future career. Nearly fifty documentary projects were presented to several juries and competed for one of several awards and cash prizes in the amount of EUR 35,000.
PRAGUE: Ten debut and sophomore films are competing in the New Europe competition of the 25th Prague International Film Festival,, set to start on 15 March 2018.
STRASBOURG: The Czech Republic is the EU country with the biggest growth rate of SVOD subscribers in 2015-2016 (226%), according to the analysis Trends in the EU SVOD market published by the European Audiovisual Observatory.
FNE IDF DocBloc: The First East Doc Platform 2018 Award Goes to Short Film Project Blackandwhite
Czech Republic 09-03-2018Blackandwhite, directed by Zoe Eluned Aiano and Anna Benner, is the winner of the IF/Then Short Pitch, a partnership between the Institute of Documentary Film, the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Institute.
STRASBOURG: Romania, Bulgaria and Latvia are the EU countries with the best production growth from 2007 to 2016, according to the report Film production in Europe. Production volume, co-production and worldwide circulation, issued by the European Audiovisual Observatory.
This month we speak with Milena Modeva, the General Manager of CINÉ GRAND from Sofia, Bulgaria. CINÉ GRAND operates two multiplexes located in two shopping malls in different areas of the city. CINÉ GRAND Park Centre (with six screens) is in the very heart of the city, while CINÉ GRAND Ring Mall (with ten screens) is in outskirts right on the Ring road.
BUCHAREST: Ioana Uricaru’s debut feature Lemonade, produced by Cristian Mungiu through Mobra films, was sold by Pluto Film to five territories after premiering in 2018 Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama section.
SOFIA: Beta Cinema sold Milko Lazarov’s Bulgarian/German/French coproduction Ága to Benelux, Switzerland, the Baltic states and China.
BUCHAREST: The One World Romania International Human Rights and Documentary FF (16-25 March 2018) spans over 10 days instead of seven, screens over 70 documentaries in over 180 screenings at eight cinemas and partner locations, with over 100 local and foreign guests, for its 11th edition. The 2018 theme is „GET REAL!”
ZAGREB: Of Fathers and Sons by Talal Derki was awarded best film in the international competition of the 14th ZagrebDox, which took place from 25 February to 4 March 2018. The Other Side of Everything by Mila Turajlić was awarded best film in the regional competition.
