TALLINN: Kalev, a biopic about the legendary Estonian basketball team of the nineties and the directorial debut of the renowned music video maker Ove Musting, has been selected as Estonia’s candidate for the 95th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category.

BUCHAREST: Eight feature films are running in the Official Competition of the 18th Bucharest International Film Festival (BIFF, 29 September – 9 October 2022), the longest-running and the only film festival in Bucharest with an international competition dedicated to feature films.

SARAJEVO: A Ballade directed by Aida Begić has been selected as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s candidate for the 95th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a Bosnian/French coproduction.

BUCHAREST: More than 90 film professionals are requesting the the head of the Romanian Film Centre (CNC) Anca Mitran, step down from her position after an interview (Anca Mitran, directorul CNC: "Toți regizorii noștri fac filme pentru festivaluri, filme de artă. Și atunci, ducem o lipsă acută de filme pentru public." - Cultura la dubă) where she said that lately all Romanian filmmakers make art films instead of films for the audience, and also that documentaries are not meant to be screened in cinemas.

On September 15 2022, the head of the Romanian film fund (hereafter referred to by its Romanian acronym, CNC), Ms Anca Mitran, gave an interview in which she positions the CNC in conflict with Romanian filmmakers, rather than as a supporter and ally of local film productions.

SKOPJE: The Happiest Man in the World by Teona Strugar Mitevska has been selected as North Macedonia’s candidate for the 95th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a coproduction between North Macedonia, Slovenia, Croatia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Denmark.

VALLETTA: British TV Series HMS Murder directed by Gordon Anderson, which is shooting in Malta for seven weeks, will generate around 2.3 m EUR into the local economy.

PLZEN: Ten films are competing in the Golden Kingfisher Feature Film and Animated Film Competition of the 35th Finále Plzeň Film Festival (23 – 28 September 2022). The lineup includes the Czech Oscar bid, Il Boemo by Petr Václav, which will open the festival.

Czech Film Springboard, the showcase of Czech feature film projects in development organized by the Czech Film Fund / Czech Film Center, will be held at Finále Plzeň film festival between September 23–25, 2022.
