BUCHAREST: Bogdan Theodor Olteanu is shooting his third feature film, the comedy Taxi Drivers / Taximetriști, from 19 September to 5 October 2022. The film is an independent 100% Romanian coproduction produced by Bold Film Studio (the first film investment fund in Romania), together with Tangaj Production and Avanpost Media.

VALLETTA: Carmen directed by Valerie Buhagiar and starring Natascha McElhone, has been selected as Malta’s candidate for the 95th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a Maltese/Canadian coproduction.

BRNO: Regional councillors of South Moravia decided to support the South Moravian Film Fund with approximately 325,300 EUR / 8 m CZK.

PLZEN: Somewhere Over the Chemtrails by Adam Koloman Rybanský received the Golden Kingfisher Award for Best Feature or Animated Film at the 35th Finále Plzeň Film Festival (23 – 28 September 2022).

WARSAW: Fifteen titles have been selected for the International Competition of the Warsaw Film Festival, whose 38th edition will be held 14 – 23 October 2022.

BUCHAREST: A total of 49 films will compete for the Animest trophy in the Short Film Competition of the 17th Animest International Animation Film Festival, running 7 – 16 October 2022. This is the only festival in Romania dedicated to animated film and also an Oscar-qualifying festival.

WARSAW: Wincenty Podobinski’s documentary Saint Michael: Meet the Angel will be released in the USA, UK and Poland on 29 September 2022, the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel.

TALLINN: Kalev, a biopic about the legendary Estonian basketball team of the nineties and the directorial debut of the renowned music video maker Ove Musting, has been selected as Estonia’s candidate for the 95th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category.

BUCHAREST: Eight feature films are running in the Official Competition of the 18th Bucharest International Film Festival (BIFF, 29 September – 9 October 2022), the longest-running and the only film festival in Bucharest with an international competition dedicated to feature films.

SARAJEVO: A Ballade directed by Aida Begić has been selected as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s candidate for the 95th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a Bosnian/French coproduction.
