BUCHAREST: Belia by Egyptian director Eman Hussein received the award for best film at the 7th edition of the Bucharest International Dance Film Festival (1-5 September 2021), the only event in Romania dedicated to films about dance. This year the theme of the festival was Potential Worlds.
TIMIȘOARA: The Hungarian/Romanian coproduction As Far as I Know directed by Nandor Lörincz and Balint Nagy has been awarded Best Film at the 5th edition of the Central European Film Festival Timișoara.
The celebration of the Documentary Film begins! The Astra Film Festival starts on Sunday in Sibiu and will take place in open air, in cinemas and online, between September 5th-12th. The opening event, which will take place starting at 6pm, at The Lake Stage within the Astra Museum, will be presented by journalist Teodora Tompea. Tudor Chirilă will recommend the festival’s programme. The audience will have the opportunity to see for the first time the `Once you know` documentary, directed by Emmanuel Cappelle, whose conclusion (`Climate change will bring the world to collapse`) has every chance to change the viewers' views on the future of humanity. The evening will end with a concert by Martyn Jacques of The Tiger Lillies.
PRODUCTION: Sebastian Mihăilescu Preps Romanian/Polish/German Coproduction Double Happiness
Romania 06-09-2021BUCHAREST: Romanian writer/director Sebastian Mihăilescu is preparing to start shooting his debut feature Double Happiness on 4 October 2021. Diana Păroiu and Ada Solomon are producing through Romania’s microfilm in coproduction with Ewa Puszczyńska through Poland’s Extreme Emotions and Nina Frese through Germany’s Pandora Film.
WARSAW: The Polish/French/Czech coproduction Leave No Traces by Jan P. Matuszyński is Poland’s candidate for the 94th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is currently vying in the main competition of the 78th Venice Film Festival (1-11 September 2021).
BUCHAREST: The revered Romanian theatre and film actor Ion Caramitru died at 79 on 5 September 2021. He was Minister of Culture from 1996 to 2000, manager of the National Theatre in Bucharest in the last 16 years, and president of the Romanian Association of Theatre Artists (UNITER) since its foundation in 1990.

In his message, which will be screened at the opening of the festival, Tudor Chirilă refers to the importance of documentary film, respectively to the impact that a cultural event such as the Astra Film Festival can have on the audience. The opening event will take place on Sunday, September 5th (6pm), at The Lake Stage in the Astra Museum. The Astra Film Festival in Sibiu will take place between September 5th-12th in open air, in cinemas and online. Like last year, the audience will enjoy float-in film screenings as part of a special programme called `The Lifeboats`.
