COTTBUS: The 23rd edition of connecting cottbus (coco), the East-West coproduction market at FilmFestival Cottbus, will be held in a hybrid format 3-5 November 2021. The selection of projects in development and works in progress includes 19 projects.

BUCHAREST: Former HBO Europe senior executives Wayne Henry and Alina David have launched the independent Romanian owned media production company EastWest Productions.

SKOPJE: Hive by Blerta Basholli, a coproduction between Kosovo, Switzerland, North Macedonia and Albania, has been selected as Kosovo’s candidate for the 94th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category.

WARSAW: Aga Woszczyńska’s debut feature Silent Land has been sold by New Europe Film Sales in France ahead of its premiere on the Toronto Film Festival’s Platform.

PRAGUE: The 28th edition of the Prague International Film Festival – Febiofest will showcase more than 100 Czech and international titles. Seven films will vie in the main competition. The festival will take place in person 17-24 September 2021.

BATUMI: Nine titles have been selected for the International Feature Films Competition of the Batumi International Art house Film Festival, running 18-24 September 2021.

An international jury headed by the Georgian director Lana Ghoghoberidze will award five prizes, including the Grand Prix. The competition line-up includes films from Georgia, Hungary, Lithuania and Poland.

Seven titles have been selected for the International Documentary Films Competition, where the jury is chaired by Georgian film director Vakhtang Kuntsev-Gabashvili.

Twenty Five films will compete in international short films competition, where the Jury is headed by Georgian film maker Dato Janelidze

Slovak-Czech-Ukrainian drama 107 Mothers has been honored with the Best Screenplay Award of the Orizzonti Competition within the 78th Venice International Film Festival's awards ceremony. On Saturday, the prize was handed over to Ivan Ostrochovský (also the producer) and Peter Kerekes (also the director and a co-producer) who joined forces and wrote the script about difficult conditions in women’s correctional facilities together. 107 Mothers was made in co-production with established Czech companies endorfilm and Hypermarket Film and it was supported by the Czech Film Fund.
