The low-budget 61-minute HD feature film Fish Cry Freedomis a feature debut from an Austrian film director and cultural anthropologist living in Munich, Wilma Kiener. Gergana Kofardzhieva and Itzko Finci star as two aging theatre actors preparing for a film in a desolate Sofia family kitchen.
PRODUCTION: The Last Days of Ceauşescu in Postproduction
BUCHAREST: Radu Gabrea is in the last stages of postproduction with his docu-drama The Last Days of Ceauşescu, with plans for a pre-premiere screening on Christmas, the day the Romanian dictator died 22 years ago.

Ave is a first feature film from Konstantin Bojanov, funded with €300,000 in public support from the National Film Center (www.nfc.bg), €14,000 - from the Bulgarian National Television (www.bnt.bg), €100,000 from KB Films and €50,000 from Camera.
PRODCUTION: Łukasz Barczyk to Direct Historical Polish Film
POZNAN: Łukasz Barczyk has been selected by the Marshal Office of the Great Poland region to direct a film about the Great Polish Uprising, the most successful of Polish insurrections. The major historical drama will be completed before December 2013.
PRODUCTION: Night Falls in India in Preparation
BUCHAREST: Spanish director Chema Rodriguez is in preproduction with Night Falls in India, a feature based on a script he wrote together with the Romanian filmmaker Cătălin Mitulescu.
PRODUCTION: Independent Polish Comedy Shooting
WARSAW: Indie Polish filmmakers Paweł Sarbinowski and Piotr Zukowski have begun principal shooting on Heaven, a comedy about celebrity afterlife which will premiere in 2012.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Róbert Šveda (Demons) is in post-production with his second full-length feature, Angels, due for completion and release in autumn 2011.
PRODUCTION: Hrebejk Going into Production with Holy Quarternity
PRAGUE: Czech director Jan Hrebejk is set to begin a mid-October shoot on a Czech-Slovak coproduction, Holy Quarternity (Svatá čtveřice) based on an original script from best-selling Czech author Michal Viewegh. The film is produced by Rudolf Biermann´s company In Film (www.infilm.cz).

BUCHAREST: Bogdan Mustaţă, who won the Golden Bear for best short film in 2008,started shooting his first feature, Lupu/Wolf in Bucharest on 26 September 2011. Shooting will wrap on 12 November.

BUCHAREST: Constantin Popescu (Portrait of a Fighter as a Young Man, Principles of Life) is in the early stages of development with De-aici vă descurcaţi singuri/So Far, So Good (working title), a comedy/road movie on the script that won the first prize at the HBO/TIFF script contest in 2011.
PRODUCTION: A Polish Pawiak Prison Documentary in Production
WARSAW: Director/writer/cinematographer Andrzej Kałuszko is completing filming on Z Pawiaka (From Pawiak) a documentary devoted to the story of Polish actress Alina Janowska who was imprisonment at the German Gestapo prison, Pawiak.

WARSAW: Polish public broadcaster TVP is completing shooting on Oscar Candidate: Barbara Ptak, a documentary devoted to one of the legends of Polish film and television costume design.

BUCHAREST: Kevin Reynolds(The Count of Monte Cristo, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) is directing the miniseries The Hatfields and McCoys: An American Vendetta whose shooting started in Romania on 12 September 2011 and is expecting to wrap in December.
