PRODUCTION: First Macedonian Animated Feature Gets Funding
SKOPJE: John Vardar vs. the Galaxy, Macedonia’s first animated feature film, has received funding from the Macedonian Film Agency and is lining up Bulgarian partners for a planned coproduction. The project was pitched at the recent Visegrad Animation Forum, which took place during the Anifilm festival the first week in May, where it received the Special Mention of the jury.
PRODUCTION: Serbian Historical Drama King Petar’s Socks
BELGRADE: The historical drama King Petar’s Socks / Čarape kralja Petra began principal shooting in mid-March 2018. Lazar Ristovski, the eminent Serbian and international actor, is starring in and producing the film, which is directed by his son Petar Ristovski. The film is a Serbian/Greek coproduction, supported by Film Center Serbia.
PRODUCTION: Romanian Minority Coproduction Donbass by Sergei Loznitsa in Postproduction
BUCHAREST: The new feature film Donbass by Sergei Loznitsa, which will open Cannes’s Un Certain Regard on 9 May 2018, is currently in postproduction. The film is a German/ French/Ukrainian/Dutch/Romanian coproduction. Most of the postproduction takes place in Bucharest at Digital Cube.

VILNIUS: The Lithuanian historical psychological drama Isaac directed by Jurgis Matulevičius will wrap shooting at the end of April 2018.

WARSAW: Jacek Borcuch is currently shooting his new drama Volterra, starring the famous Polish actress Krystyna Janda. The shooting takes place in Tuscany, Italy.
PRODUCTION: Romanian/Mexican/Japanese Coproduction Drunken Fish on the Moon to Be Shot in Romania
BUCHAREST: The Romanian/Mexican/Japanese coproduction Drunken Fish on the Moon (working title) directed by the Japanese Kohki Hasei is expected to have a three weeks shoot in Romania in the autumn of 2018. The project is currently in the financing stage with the Romanian party represented by Metropolis Film and the producer Daniel Mitulescu. Emir Kusturica is the executive producer.

TBILISI: The shooting for a new Indian film directed by Dr Anil Viswanath and starring Southern Indian stars Naveen Chandra and Shalini Vadnikatti wrapped in Georgia in March 2018.
PRODUCTION: Amazon Studios' Carnival Row Wraps Shooting in Czech Republic
PRAGUE: The futuristic series Carnival Row, produced by Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, and starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, wrapped shooting in the Czech Republic on 14 March 2018. Serviced by Stillking Films, Carnival Row is among the most expensive international productions filmed in the Czech Republic since the introduction of film incentives in 2010.
PRODUCTION: Four Female Directors Shoot First Polish Series from Netflix
WARSAW: Olga Chajdas and Agnieszka Smoczyńska are joining Agnieszka Holland and Kasia Adamik for the shooting of 1983, the first Polish Netflix series. The 8-episode series, which is currently shooting in Poland, is set in a world where the Iron Curtain never fell.

My Grandma’s Locks is the sophomore feature by husband and wife writers/directors Hovhaness Galstyan and Marine Zakaryan, and it is based on true events.

WARSAW: Sam Akina’s Planet Single 2, a sequel to the 2016 Polish box office hit starring Maciej Stuhr, is currently shooting in Warsaw. Kino Świat will release the film domestically on 9 November 2018.

BELGRADE: Serbian writer/director Miloš Puić is currently in production with long documentary Pixie, focusing on one of the biggest living footaball legends in Serbia, Dragan Stojković Piksi. The film is supported by Film Center Serbia.
PRODUCTION: Petr Jákl Signs with Hollywood Producer for the Biggest Budget Czech Film Ever
PRAGUE: Director/producer/screenwriter Petr Jákl signed with the Hollywood producer Cassian Elwes for his epic biopic Jan Žižka, about Bohemia’s greatest warrior Jan Žižka of Trocnov. Jan Žižka is expected to be the biggest budget Czech film ever and to star a famous foreign actor.
