PODGORICA: The Croatian/Serbian coproduction The Uncle directed by David Kapac and Andrija Mardešić was awarded the Golden Mimosa Grand Prix at the 35th edition of the Herceg Novi - Montenegro Film Festival (22 – 28 August 2022). This year, the largest film festival in Montenegro focused on films from the region.

LJUBLJANA: Film centres from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, North Macedonia and Montenegro have signed a three-year Memorandum of Cooperation after the successful first edition of ReActing as a Star. The project brought together actors, directors, casting directors, and talent agents in Kranj, Slovenia 16 – 19 June 2022, within the 2nd edition of the KRAFFT Film Festival.

BUDAPEST: Documentary filmmakers, film critics and students are invited to apply for the Film Critics Workshop, the DocLab Workshop and the Student Jury at the 19th edition of the Verzió International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, which will be held in Budapest 8 – 20 November 2022.

During the CineLink Industry Days in cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Festival, on 17 August 2022, the directors of film centres from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, North Macedonia and Montenegro signed a three-year Memorandum of Cooperation, which has resulted from the successful organisation of the first international programme dedicated to actors from this region, promoting their networking as well as increasing their mobility and visibility in the European film industry.

VALLETTA: The period drama War Sailor / Krigsseileren directed by Gunnar Vikene, which was partly shot in Malta as a Maltese minority coproduction, was selected for the Toronto IFF (8 – 18 September 2022). The film opened the Hagesund Film Festival (20 – 26 August 2022) in Norway, winning the Audience Award.

SIBIU: The 29th edition of Astra Film Festival has announced its official selection. Eight titles will compete in the New Voices in Documentary Cinema Competition, ten in the Central and Eastern Europe Competition and 11 in the local competition Romania Open. The festival will be held 9 – 16 October 2022.

SOFIA: American production Red Sonja directed by M.J. Bassett and starring Matilda Lutz, Wallis Day and Robert Sheehan is currently shooting at the Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia.

BUDAPEST: The 5th edition of the Budapest Classic Film Marathon, a festival of restored films, will be held from 13 to 18 September, organised again by the National Film Institute – Hungary. This year the festival will focus on Hollywood’s Central European roots.
