The organisers of the Szolnok International Film Festival of Fine Arts are calling for entries for the event which will be held Oct. 8-12 this year in Szolnok, Hungary. Entries are being accepted that present, interpret or re-interpret works of art by means of cinematic methods, according to festival secretary Katalin Hatvani.

Polish media and entertainment group ITI Holdings SA has reached agreement with the owners of Silver Screen World Cinemas to merge its operations with those of its Multikino network of multiplex cinemas. As a result of the acquisition, Multikino will operate 19 movie theaters with 174 screens in 13 Polish cities and will enter the Ukrainian market.

Listed Polish broadcaster TVN turned in a strong fourth-quarter performance on Monday, buoyed by rising advertising sales in Poland's booming economy. Revenue in the last quarter of 2007 rose 29% to 522 million zloties (€147 million), ahead of analysts' expectations.

Slovenian films are popular as never before domestically. Of the 25 films currently being screened in Ljubljana, one-fifth were made in Slovenia, according to the Slovenian daily Delo.

Berlin-based A Company Consulting & Licensing AG and Hungarian independent distributor Budapest Film have agreed to establish a European VOD platform called Filmklik Europe. The deal calls for A Company to acquire shares of the VOD operator Filmklik Hungary which launched on June 1, 2007.

Estrellita, the latest feature by Metod Pevec, was released to Slovenian cinemas in late January with simultaneous premiere screenings at two different Ljubljana cinemas, according to the Slovenian government communications office.


A total of 131 films from Latvia screened worldwide at 230 international film events in 2007, according to the Latvian Film Centre. They included 17 fiction films, 33 documentaries and 81 animation films. Latvian films picked up 36 awards worldwide in 2007.

Shooting is under way for the new Slovenian film Transition by director Boris Palčič. The screenplay is based on the novel by Vladimir Nardin with the same title.


Digital television operator Polsat Cyfrowy posted a net profit of 122.3 million zloties (€33.9 million) during the first three quarters of 2007, or 125% above the same nine-month period in 2006, the company said in a statement Feb. 12. Revenues rose nearly 70% during the same period to 553.3 million zloties.

Two Slovenian co-productions are being screened in the "Panorama" section of the official Berlinale program. One is Love and Other Crimes by the Serbian director Stefan Arsenijević, a Serbian-German-Slovenian co-production with the Slovenian production house Arkadena. The second is the film I'm from Titov Veles by the Macedonian director Teona Mitevska.
