BUDAPEST: The Polish/Hungarian coproduction Budapest Diaries / Budapesti napló by Rafael Kapelinski wrapped shooting in Budapest on 9 May 2022. The historical drama is set in 1981, when the political and economical crisis worsened in Poland, and many people travelled to Hungary where the repressions were less strict.

TBILISI: Classic Georgian director/writer Lana Gogoberidze, who was the guest of honour at the 22nd edition of goEast with a retrospective of 10 of her films, is currently editing a new project. The long documentary Returning to Life is dedicated to her mother, Nutsa Gogoberidze, who was the first Georgian female film director.

RIGA: The Latvian film Flow / Straume directed by Gints Zilbalodis is currently in preproduction. The second long animated film by the Annecy Contrechamp competition winner Gints Zilbalodis has been selected for France's CNC (Centre national du cinéma t de l’image animée) advance on earnings.

VILNIUS: Dansu Films has started filming the dramedy TV series Troll Farm / Trolių ferma directed by Ernestas Jankauskas in Lithuania. The project was the winner of the first edition of the co-financing market TV Beats Forum at Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, which took place in November 2021 within the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.

SKOPJE: Agent 203 is the first 3D-animated series created and directed by Damjan Mitrevski of the Macedonian studio V House Animation. The German/Italian/Macedonia/Indian coproduction is currently in production and expected to premiere in 2023.

TBILISI: Georgian director Ana Barjadze is currently in production with her long film, the documentary Bitter Sugar. This is a universal and intimate story about the unique bond between brothers, and about children abandoned by parents who are forced to work abroad.

NICOSIA: Cypriot writers/directors Corinna Avraamidou and Kyriacos Tofarides are currently in postproduction with Iman, a 100% Cypriot drama produced by AB Seahorse Film Productions.

BUDAPEST: The production of Áron Gauder’s Minden a rokonom is approaching completion. “The animation is 95 percent complete, with five minutes left in the 100-minute film. The last phase of the work process, compositing, is halfway through, and we will be done with it by the end of 2022”, producer Réka Temple told FNE.

PODGORICA: Montenegrin writer/director Ivan Marinović is currently in preparation with the farcical comedy Forever Hold Your Peace / Živi i zdravi, which he plans to start shooting on 13 May 2022. The film is a coproduction between Montenegro, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Croatia, North Macedonia and Slovenia.

NICOSIA: The South African-Cypriot writer/director Stelana Kliris is currently shooting The Islander, a romantic comedy starring Harry Connick Jr. and Mira Sorvino, in Cyprus. The film is a US/Cypriot coproduction funded by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture and supported by the Cyprus Film Commission’s incentives scheme.

LUBLIN: Shooting is underway on Irena's Vow, a Canadian/Polish WWII drama directed by Louise Archambaul. The film is supported by the Polish Film Institute and the local government of Lublin, and it is set to premiere in 2023.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Agim Abdula is currently in postproduction with his debut feature Koma, a Macedonian national film, which is set to premiere by the autumn of 2022.

SOFIA: Award-winning director Ralitza Petrova is currently in preparation with her sophomore feature, Lust. A coming-of-middle-age story and a mystery psychological drama, the film follows a flawed prison officer, who inherits the debts of her deceased, estranged father. This Bulgarian/Danish/Swedish coproduction, produced by Bulgarian Aporia Filmworks, has been recently supported by Eurimages.

BELGRADE: Serbian director Ivan Jović is currently in postproduction with his sophomore feature Shadow of the Mediterranean / Senoviti Mediteran, a Serbian/Greek coproduction shot both in Serbia and Greece by Slovenian DoP Simon Tanšek.

WARSAW: Jerzy Skolimowski’s EO, which will screen in Competition in Cannes (17-28 May 2022), is dedicated to Robert Bresson, but it is not a remake of Au hasard Balthazar (1966). This Polish/Italian coproduction focuses solely on the donkey.

LJUBLJANA: Nejc Gazvoda’s new feature film Father Figure started shooting in his home town Novo mesto in Slovenia on 19 April 2022. The film is a coproduction between Slovenia, Czech Republic and Italy, and it is produced on the Slovenian side by Aleš Pavlin and Andrej Štritof through Perfo.
